What to Expect
(Suggested itinerary. All programs are subject to change).
We begin with introductions at our unique, art-inspired hotel where we will spend our first 4 nights. Perfectly situated between Nice’s waterfront and train station, our hotel is close to everything, has a magical garden restaurant, and a soothing full service spa. Included in the tour is a regional rail pass we use to explore surrounding areas. Guided walks are optional, varied, and breathtaking.
Day 1: Arrival Day. We’ll have an orientation meeting in the afternoon to learn about the program, get acquainted, and then head out for a guided walk around Nice of the lively pedestrian areas and Place Massena.
Day 2: For those who’d like to, we’ll ramble from Villefranche-sur-Mer to Cap Ferrat and walk it’s gorgeous sentiers. The entire group will meet up for class with Jane at the Rothschild Villa & Gardens. This is truly a spectacular day. Evening: Welcome dinner and a walk to Nice’s Old Town for a gelato.
Day 3: The day begins with a train ride to Roquebrune/Cap Martin to walk the coastal sentier and visit the old town of Menton. This charming village by the sea will provide the day’s sketching and watercolor inspiration. For the enthusiastic, options are an easy walk to the Italian Border, and /or a guided tour of the Principality of Monaco. (Three countries in one day!)
Day 4: Visiting Antibes old town, our art class will find color and lively details in it’s Marché provençal. The afternoon is free for several great options: self-guided sentier walk, visit the hilltop artist villages of Eze, or St. Paul de Vence, Grasse, etc.
Day 5: Paris beckons and this morning we board the fast train and head north. After checking into our 4-star hotel, a guided orientation walk will reveal the essentials of our charming Parisian neighborhood. We reconvene after an arrival supper for a sunset river cruise on the Seine to view the city at twilight.
Day 6: To get an overview of the city, ride the HOHO bus by all the major sites, including a stop at the Paris Opera house. There we’ll tour it’s famous interior and magnificent, spiraling staircase, then find a quiet corner to sketch and paint it’s architectural beauty. The afternoon is free to paint and explore on your own the sights and neighborhoods of Paris.
Day 7: Together we’ll ride the Metro to the Musée d’Orsay where you will be free to wander its incomparable collection of impressionist and post impressionist works. Later that day, the Père Lachaise Cemetery will provide new inspiration as we wander it’s serene paths and ancient tombs.
Day 8: Discover the Promenade of Paris as we saunter the Champs-Élysées from the Arc de Triomphe to the Louvre. Find the perfect spot for a bistro lunch before convening with your fellow traveling artists at the incomparable Angelina’s. A farewell dinner filled with memories, laughter, and friends new and old will create the perfect ending to this very special Art Walk tour.
