Meet Art Walk England Artist Laure Ferlita!
The fun and adventure of being out and about while creating art quickly caught Laure’s interest nearly ten years ago. Having been a studio painter for years, she was instantly hooked when she first started sketching on location. Laure is excited to share her passion and talent as Teaching Artist in The Blue Walk‘s Art In England program August 14-20, 2017. Join us in Stratford-upon-Avon, to explore and capture the charming and dynamic Coltswold region of England.
Laure quickly learned the challenges of working outdoors. Her work was subject to the whim and mercy of nature, the weather, and curious onlookers. Still, she found sketching to be an excellent way to capture fleeting moments often swept away by life’s constant flow.
Laure developed a system she calls the 5 E’s—Evaluate, Eliminate, Edit, Embellish and Exaggerate. This system creates a very different mindset from the one she uses while in the studio where she’s in control of the lighting, temperature and weather! It allows her to capture the essence of a location quickly before moving on to the next point of interest.
Whether she’s in the studio or working in her sketchbook, watercolor is Laure’s chosen medium as well as her passion. “Watercolor, for me, is an outstanding sketching medium,” she says. “It provides ease of use, quick color saturation, clean up is a snap and really, you don’t need much equipment. Used as a sketching medium, watercolor is not quite so intimidating either.”
Primarily self-taught, Laure Ferlita has a background and degree in graphic design. She has been featured in Cathy Johnson’s book, Artist’s Journal Workshop, and she teaches online at ImaginaryTrips.com and TheImaginaryRealm.com.
