The Blue Walk was born from a simple question: what would travel look like if you designed it around presence instead of productivity, more about being where your feet are than checking off a list of destinations? For us, Suzy Schutz and Jeannette Candau, the answer started on foot, leading small-group walking vacations along the coastlines and through the villages of Europe. Over a decade later, that question has evolved into something even richer - intimate, artist-led workshop vacations that blend creative instruction, guided walking, and genuine cultural immersion into experiences that stay with you long after you come home.

Originally from California and after eight years in Italy, we're now based in a small, coastal town in Portugal. We attend every trip as your hosts. We're not managing this from behind a desk. We're on the ground, adjusting the day's plan based on the weather, the group's energy, or the discovery of a local festival that wasn't in the itinerary. It's the reason so many guests come back, and it's why the experience feels personal from the moment you arrive.

The Evolution
What started as a European walking tour company has grown into something we couldn't have planned. Today, we're a creative travel company where art, walking, and cultural discovery are woven into a single experience. In the early days, we called these hybrid trips "Art Walks". They were walking vacations with an art workshop built in. The name has faded, but the idea hasn't. Walking was the foundation that made this next chapter possible, and it remains a core part of every journey. It's just no longer the headline.
The intimate, small-group format stays the same. The core values of presence, curiosity, controlled spontaneity, flexibility, and growth carry forward unchanged.
