Art Vacations
Sketchbook & Urban Sketching Vacations
Sketchbook programs are where The Blue Walk's creative side began, and they remain close to the heart of what we do. Urban sketching and travel journaling ask you to slow down, look closely, and record what's in front of you with your own hand. Many workshops bring in watercolor to add color and life to a sketch, and occasionally light mixed media elements. No studio, no easel, no pressure. Just a sketchbook, a pen, and the village square, café terrace, or coastline in front of you.
What to Expect
Instruction happens on site, in the place itself, with structured creative time built into the rhythm of the day alongside walking, shared experiences, and conversation. You might spend a morning capturing the rooftops and doorways of a fishing village, then head out on foot through its backstreets in the afternoon, finding the next scene worth drawing, and usually the next good meal too. The drawing and the walking aren't two parts of the day. They're how each one leads to the other.

Every Skill Level Welcome
Your artist-teacher meets you where you are. If you've never drawn before, you'll leave with pages that surprise you. If you've been sketching for years, you'll find new techniques and the rare pleasure of working alongside a small group who shares your curiosity.
Many guests find that the travel journal they start here becomes a practice they carry into every journey afterward. You'll learn techniques you can use for the rest of your life.
Walking
Walking is part of every sketchbook program, not scheduled around it. Most days include two to four hours on foot, through backstreets, coastal paths, and neighborhoods most visitors never find.
A Note on Pace
We walk together at a group pace, with some flexibility to adjust the route as the day unfolds. If fitness or mobility is a concern, our FAQ has more detail on what to expect.
