ArtWalk Workshop Vacations at SketchKon 2018

Suzy and I had a great time at SketchKon 2018. What, pray tell, is SketchKon? A 4 day convention in Pasadena, CA “devoted to drawing, painting, creativity, and friendship” and all things sketchy. It was presented by Sketchbook Skool and Artists Network. Of course we were there to talk about our ArtWalk workshop vacations. ArtWalks are small group, 1-2 week tours. We visit some of Europe’s most beautiful destinations. Our amazing teaching artists give classes mainly on location, helping you capture your travel memories in sketchbook journals. ArtWalks are fun, flexible, travel lightly, and are based on sketching and watercolor travel journaling. SketchKon was the perfect venue to meet new talented teaching artists and students who are passionate about sketchbook journaling. We are so glad we took part and hope to return for the next one!

See the Artist Network interview about our fun and fabulous ArtWalk workshop vacations with The Blue Walk’s Jeannette Candau, one of our ArtWalk teaching artists, Jane LaFazio, and ArtWalk student Pat Dicker at SketchKon 2018.

Talking about ArtWalk

Our display at SketchKon featured lots of pictures from previous ArtWalks. They work great to show the places, people, great food, and fun that make up our leisurely art workshop vacations. We talked to a lot of sketchbook artists / students about our ArtWalk vacations and are excited about introducing them to these beautiful destinations with talented teachers.

Suzy can be seen here becoming one with our SketchKon ArtWalk display.

Who was there?

We saw many familiar faces, and it was great to catch up with friends. The informative and inspirational presentations and workshops at SketchKon included several topics specific to travel journaling (our specialty). There was a good showing of ArtWalk alumnae there.

One of our ArtWalk teaching artists, Jane LaFazio, was a presenter and also found time to attend some sessions. I took this picture of Jane working quick figure sketches in Veronica Lawlor‘s amazing Ready, Set, Draw class.
Suzy and I were plenty busy talking with friends new and old during SketchKon 2018. Of course we also managed to find the occasional refreshing beverage. How could it be a Blue Walk event without an Aperol Spritz?!
We were treated to many amazing sunsets from the Westin Hotel terrace. A great event, with quality content, and wonderful people. We are so glad we were able to be part of SketchKon 2018!
