Art Workshop Vacation in Paris, France

L’objet trouvé, the found object. We’ll spend a fabulous week together in Paris, France in search of it. In search of them!  Your days will be steeped in Paris’ famous flea markets, antique book markets, and wonderful boutique art supply stores. Along the way, you’ll search for what inspires you. Those found objects will fill your travel art journal with memories of Paris.

Join us for an unforgettable week with the joyful and always fun Tammy Gilley. We’ll walk through Tammy’s favorite neighborhoods in her favorite city. Together, we will explore incredible art museums, shop for just the right treasures, and share wonderful moments together in beautiful Paris, France. Then, using all the inspiration and found objects, you’ll create a gorgeous, and very personal, travel art journal. Oh la la! 

What to Expect

Art Workshop

Each day Tammy will lead you through how to make your very own mixed media art journal. On our daily walks you’ll search for what inspires you. If you dig a scavenger hunt… If vintage French paper and ephemera is your jam… And, if you love creating, laughter, and maybe a little French wine… This is the workshop vacation for you.

Your found objects will create and fill your mixed media art journal with memories of Paris. First, our early excursions will provide foundational materials and inspiration. Next, you will begin to build collaged pages of your European vacation adventures. Then, using collected ephemera, Tammy will guide you in using color, pattern, small sketches and text to create rich, relevant content. Finally, from your daily art classes you will have a beautiful mixed media journal filled with memories of your time in France

Travel and Touring

Our art workshop vacation in Paris is equal parts travel vacation and inspired art workshop. Every day will include discovering a new areas and destinations through our unique neighborhood walks, as well as a fun, creative art class with Tammy Gilley. The content of the class will be inspired by the places we visit and people we meet along the way. We will walk and use the metro to get around Paris with ease.

Day 1

Saint Germain: Our art vacation workshop in Paris begins midafternoon on the first day. First, we will spend some time meeting one another and talking about our days ahead. Then we will set off for an orientation walk of the neighborhood. Along the way we will stop at one of our favorite art supply stores. Afterwards, you can find a bite to eat with the group or maybe tuck in early after a busy day of travel.

Day 2

Market Day! Start at the Old and Used Book Market – a treasure trove of printed material of all shapes and sizes. Next, explore the Puces de Vanves Flea Market. There, vintage jewelry, paper, linen, and other goodies await your discovery. After a special lunch at a family owned bistro known for it’s farm to table cuisine, we’ll return to the hotel “studio” for an art journal workshop class with Tammy.

Day 3

Around the Seine: Spend the morning with the works of Monet, Renoir and Degas at the Musée D’Orsay. Afterward, stroll through the Tuileries Garden before lunch in the stunning tea room at Angelina’s. Next, we will visit one or two boutique art supply stores as well as pass through the Louvre courtyard with its famous glass pyramid. Finally, Tammy will show you how to bring it all together in another art journal workshop class.

Day 4

Belleville: Today our art workshop vacation will be led by a local artist on a street art tour through the Belleville neighborhood. One of the highlights of our time together, you’ll learn about a subculture of today’s art scene while discovering a vibrant and diverse neighborhood. The day’s adventures will provide lots of inspiration for your art journal class in the afternoon.

Day 5

Easy Eiffel Day: Start the day at your leisure… Sketch at a cafe while enjoying a cappuccino and croissant. Or maybe visit a destination not on our itinerary. (Paris has so many from which to choose!) In the afternoon after class, we will set off for a view of the iconic Eiffel Tower. In the evening our river cruise on the Seine will take in the glow of Paris as the sun sets. It is the most beautiful way to see the City of Light.

Day 6

Latin Quarter:  The day begins with an appointment at a boutique art store (and possibly a little retail therapy). Then we will view Notre Dame, newly opened after the terrible fire that tore through it in 2019. Next, we’ll stop by Shakespeare and Co bookstore before walking to Parisians’ favorite open space, the Luxembourg Gardens, for lunch. Later, reconvene at the hotel for art class.

Day 7

Montmartre: Your art workshop vacation would not be complete without a visit to Montmartre. Follow winding streets to Sacre Coeur and Place du Tetre. You’ll find inspiration at the Musée Montmartre and the serene Renoir garden. Afterwards, refresh with a light lunch and a sip of wine (just like the Impressionists did!). Next we will reconvene for our last class. Finally, in the evening we will gather to celebrate our week together with a farewell dinner.

Day 8

Departures: After a delicious breakfast, we bid farewell to our art journal workshop friends until the next time. No formal activities are planned for this day. You may depart whenever it suits your schedule.

Paris, France’s capital, is a major European city and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture. Its 19th-century city-scape is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine. Beyond such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and the 12th-century, Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, the city is known for its cafe culture and designer boutiques. 

Paris has two international airports that may serve your arrival and departure – Charles de Gaulle and Orly. Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is the primary airport and offers the most flights to North America.
