With a maximum class size of 14, you can expect quality time during art classes. Additionally, we travel to small, local places large tour groups can’t.
2. On-site sketching
Develop skills and techniques to use whenever you travel. Specifically, learn to pack light and create as you go.
3. Slow Travel
Not only will you have time to relax and unwind from your everyday life; you will experience Greece as few do. Far from the crowds, and led by local knowledge. Off-the-beaten-path encounters await!
What is Art Walk Greece like?
sketchbook travel journal vacation
Experience a sketchbook travel journal vacation that is equal parts an art program and a discovery of Greece. Imagine visiting the beautiful Greek Islands with an insider-guide leading the way. And not from the distance of a cruise ship or passenger bus, but at eye level and with a small group of friends. Become immersed in the sensory experience of travel. A journey where we wander and wonder through the islands. Feel the wind, water and sun. Taste the spices. Dance to the music. Share a laugh with our Greek hosts, and know you are welcome.
For 12 nights, your sketchbook travel journal vacation in Greece will island-hop through the Cyclades. First we visit Athens for its ancient history and vibrant café scene. Next you’ll unwind on Amorgos. An undiscovered gem, Amorgos is an authentic, lost-to-time Greek island. Then explore the wide beaches, charming harbor, and quiet countryside of Naxos. Finally find Santorini with its cliff-topped villages perched high above the sea, rich history, and iconic views.
See yourself sketching on a shady terrace only steps from the Aegean, contemplating one of the hundreds of little churches that dot the islands, or capturing the winding, white-washed streets. There are so many beautiful opportunities to see, sketch, and experience on our Art Walk Greece program!
You should be able to comfortably walk for an hour at a time at a leisurely pace. We will be walking on trails, cobbled paths, pavement, and lots stairs.
What are Anne’s Art Classes Like?
Sketchbook Travel Journal Vacation
Anne has used sketchbook journaling as an inspiring daily practice of writing and drawing her life’s journey for the last 20+ years. She welcomes all budding artists, at any level, to join us. Any perceived mistakes are just opportunities for more creativity to occur. This will truly be a light-hearted literal adventure…. both on the page and in Greece!
Our small group classes will mostly sketch on-site. Content and inspiration will come from what we find. Anne will teach a balance of traditional sketching techniques blended with travel journaling. Foundational skills such as blind contour will be covered. Additionally, much of the workshop time will be driven by Anne’s signature process. You will learn how to capture daily experience in your sketchbook “travelogue”.
A travel journal not only celebrates and documents a trip’s incredible meals and sights. It also is made up of the many small encounters such as unique people, priceless snippets of conversation, language barriers, and silly mishaps. Significantly, these magical moments are what make your travel journal a lifelong treasure.
Anne will guide you in recollecting details that expressly add meaning and nostalgia to your pages. All the while also teaching you colorful, creative word illustration, page layouts, and drawing techniques.

Solo travelers and single supplements
For our guests who are traveling solo... We offer a single supplement for an additional fee if you wish to guarantee a private room.
If you do not request a private room, you may share a twin room with another trip participant of the same sex (Roomshare). If you sign up and no Roomshare is available, a 50% single supplement will be due at final payment. However, if a roommate is found before your trip departs, you will be matched and the single supplement will be refunded.
Please note that a single supplement guarantees a private room. Whenever possible singles will be placed in the same room type as our double or twin rooms. However, European hotels often have smaller single rooms available at a lesser cost. If you would be interested in this option please inform us while booking.
Twin / Double Rooms
Please be aware twin beds in Europe may have very little or no space between beds. Also, instead of a king or queen mattress, double beds are often two adjoining twin mattresses made with double bedding.
We provide a general description of our walks. It is your responsibility to know your own physical and medical condition with respect to the advisability of participating in a chosen trip. We suggest you prepare by doing some longer walks and (working up to) doing 1 hour of walking comfortably. Ideally, include walks with elevation change and stairs. (There are always stairs.)
As with any exercise program, we recommend you consult with your physician prior to your arrival regarding the suitability of a walking tour.
Many find walking sticks helpful on steep or uneven terrain. Before using them on a vacation, we strongly advise you be comfortable using walking sticks on familiar paths.
For additional information on these topics and more, please see our FAQ page.
Where in the World?
Your Art Walk sketchbook travel journal vacation begins in Athens, Greece. We then spend most of our time island hopping through the Cyclades. The Cyclades is a group of Greek islands southeast of the mainland in the Aegean Sea. It is a perfect place for a walking vacation. The islands are known for their beaches, ancient sites, rugged landscapes and traditional blue-and-white stucco towns overlooking the sea.
At the end of the tour, the most convenient departure is from the Santorini Airport. It is located about 10 minutes from our hotel.
All things being equal, for our itinerary it is preferred to book flights into Athens and out of Santorini. Alternatively, if you reserve roundtrip flights between your home airport and Athens, for your departure a separate flight from Santorini to Athens may be booked. If that is the case, we advise leaving at least 3 hours between landing in Athens and departing on your international flight.
