La Dolce Vita, The Sweet Life, a very popular phrase when referring to living in the beautiful country of Italy. We would tend to agree, having made Italy our part-time home for the past three plus years. After living most of our lives in coastal California, another place where we enjoyed the sweet life, we decided to take an adventure and move to Italy.  Armed with our high school Spanish, a love for new experiences, and a desire to be challenged, we thought, “Why not?” And what an adventure it has been.

During the process of renovating an ancient home in the Italian countryside, we also purchased a travel company, today known as “The Blue Walk.” Our niche is small-group walking tours in Italy, France, Greece, and Spain. During our years of traveling Southern Europe as The Blue Walk,  introducing travelers to beautiful destinations, interesting people, and culinary specialities, we have learned a lot, made many friends, and fallen in love with the local cultures. These are what we’d like to share with you.

This year we have availability remaining in two Northern Italy departures: May 23-30 and October 19-26. We have a maximum of 12 guests per tour to keep the experience personal and intimate. With small groups we are able to enjoy boutique hotels, small, family-run restaurants, and other places large tours cannot.

Blue Walk Italy, Umbria

Blue Walk Italy, Umbria, walking tour

Our newest Italy itinerary, Blue Walk Umbria, spends 6 nights in the Etruscan city of Orvieto. Our leisurely walks meander through the Umbrian countryside, the green heart of Italy.  A food-lover’s delight, we visit an estate vineyard and chat with the winemaker, have an olive oil museum tour and tasting, and, at our farewell meal, feast upon a farm to table multi-course meal with artisan cheeses, meats, and house-made pastas. This is a perfect tour for those looking for a very authentic, rural Italian experience.

Getting Noticed

Each season we seek to improve our tours to provide authentic, high quality experiences at a great value. We want to share with you our favorite discoveries. We avoid crowds, long days, and tour buses. You are given the opportunity to get your feet on the ground in off-the-beaten-path areas. Our soft adventure itineraries offer a balance of activity and free time, returning you home feeling inspired, stronger, and renewed.

Over the last 4 years, we have increased our number of departures, added Spain to our offerings, created a new Italy itinerary in Umbria, and expanded our ArtWalk tour destinations and faculty. The Blue Walk has been featured in International Travel News, the Los Angeles Times, Recommend Magazine and Curve Magazine. In 2019 we were nominated for the Solo Traveler Award and Solo Travelers’ Choice Award for speciality tours.

Though we have been gaining in recognition and popularity, we certainly have not gotten here alone. We appreciate each of our guests who have traveled with us and become part of The Blue Walk family, sharing their wonderful experience with their network of friends and family. The greatest award we can receive is a positive recommendation. It’s great to be awarded Best Walking Tour in Italy, but our favorite reward is knowing our guests are having a wonderful experience. We are grateful for the opportunity to be living la dolce vita and sharing our passion for travel with those that trust us with their vacations. We hope to see you soon!
