Overview
Join us for a six-night sketchbook journey along the French Riviera with teaching artist Lloyd Dangle, based in Antibes so you unpack only once. Each day opens with a walk along a new stretch of coastline, an open market, a remote island monastery, a pastel-hued medieval village, before settling into a sketching session along the way.
Lloyd’s approach pushes past the tidy, curated travel journal, the kind you’d see on Instagram, toward something textured, honest, and a little irreverent. Someone might build a comic strip out of sardine tin wrappers. Someone else might paint a mouthwatering watercolor of a pastry that didn’t survive the afternoon. There’s no wrong way to do it here. By the end of the week, your journal holds the Riviera’s highs, lows, and gelato mishaps in equal, messy measure.
The Creative Experience
This is a sketchbook program, worked on-location as the day unfolds, with prompts for timed freewriting and doodling alongside the drawing. No polished result is expected, if you can tear paper, scribble with a crayon, and use a glue stick, you’re ready. Sessions run about 1.5 to 2.5 hours, with Lloyd demonstrating in his own journal as he teaches the group. By the end, your journal is a textured, personal account of the week, not a tidy one.

About YourArtist-Teacher
Lloyd Dangle
Before he published his first comic strip, Lloyd sketched unflattering caricatures at a bar in New York, work that got him a stint at the Village Voice. He’s carried a sketchbook since, for notes, rough ideas, and split-second caricatures of friends. That same instinct for translating the world into pictures later led him to help Fortune 50 companies explain their products with storyboards and visual thinking, facilitating strategy sessions with CEOs and launching visually rich consulting practices at tech companies.
“A journal is a safe place where you are free to experiment without worrying about getting things right,” he says. His classes are a judgment-free zone, evocative prompts and playful tools that mash up right-brain and left-brain thinking. Novelty is what drives him, the unusual, the strange, the funny, and foreign travel is where he finds it most. If you already like to draw, expect to walk away with more humor and irreverence in your work. If you’re new to it, expect a warm place to start.
